NICOLETTE is the main character of the story about wine. She will induct the reader into the viticulture of her era and will natter a bit about her medieval everyday life – once the booklet is finished. ...Ego versus faciens bibo vinum bonum,
If I'm supposed to rhyme, I have to drink good wine, the purest kept in the casks of the hosts, only such wine generates the right flow of words. In den Randillustrationen meines 'Weinbüchleins' werden immer wieder einmal heimische Schönheiten auftauchen, wie hier dieses Prachtexemplar von Polyommatus thersites ;-)) Here and there local beauties will be part of the margin designs of my 'wine booklet', such as this splendid specimen of a Polyommatus thersites ;-)) Zur Zeit schreibe ich nicht nur am Text für mein geplantes Buch, sondern arbeite natürlich auch an den Illustrationen weiter. Currently I’m not only writing the text for my projected book, but I also continue working on the illustrations. Here some work-in-progress pictures. Kolorierung der Gesichter und des Hintergrundes. Colouring of the faces and the background. Offenbarung 14:18 Put in your sharp sickle and gather the clusters from the vine of the earth, because her grapes are ripe. Revelation 14:18 Today I researched on water supply in medieval villages. Along the way I found some interesting and funny evidence about the obviously proverbial loquaciousness of the maid servants who had to fetch the water from the village well. Now I'm thinking about adding a scene with gossipping maid servants ...
... Goodness gracious me! ... what the heck were early 15th century maid servants gossipping about??... ... any ideas??? ... irgendwelche Ideen ? Very often I have little 'after-work-walks' in this place and I really like this view. So I decided to incorporate it as a background in one of the illustrations ... of course stylised and with a good portion of artistic license ... ... and this is how it (perhaps only temporarily) turned out to look like ... Before I definitely decided about the style and design of the illustrations I gave different options a try. In the end I found 15th century style with its floral patterns, its roundels and its clourfulness suited best. I finished a complete sample, made a few modifications and the design was defined. Regarding the accompanying story I decided to ‘hire’ a maid servant as a ‘guide’ for the tour through the medieval world of winemaking … … and thus NICOLETTE I. came to see the light of day … ... but as things go ... as an artist you are never really contended with your work ... so I decided to make some changes and created a second version of the maidservant ... and there she is NICOLETTE II. ... but her you know already ... aber die kennen Sie ja schon Egressi in agros vindemia-verunt vineas uvasque calca-verunt et, factis cantantium choris ... Richter 9:27... And they went out into the fields, and gathered their vineyards, and trode the grapes, and made merry ...
Since a few years I'm living in one of the most beautiful wine regions of the country. Wherever I go, I encounter irresitable motifs, almost asking to be incorporated into illustrations. In addition the interesting and fascinating local history provides a lot of suggestions for particular scenes and details.
